About the Analytical Toxicology Core Laboratory
The Analytical Toxicology Core Laboratory at the University of Florida provides comprehensive analytical support to on-campus and off-campus researchers requiring qualitative and/or quantitative chemical analysis to meet study objectives. Equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and staffed with personnel experienced in handling complex biological tissues, the ATCL is an available resource for method development, as well as for routine analyses which include a wide range of environmental contaminants, drugs, and other toxins from a variety of environmental and biological matrices: OCP, OPP, PAH, PCB, VOC, MIB, geosmin, metals, legal and illicit drugs, fatty acids, estrogenic and androgenic species, among others, from soil, water, animal and human tissues and fluids.
With the primary mission of supporting basic and applied research, the skills, knowledge, and experience of the scientific staff is available to assist investigators in the proposal phase of new research to ensure competitive grant application. Early phase assistance frequently includes the generation of sample collection and preservation protocols, the development and/or description of methodology to meet stated objectives, customization of quality assurance protocols, and the production of preliminary data. In addition to supporting research in the fields of human, environmental and forensic toxicology, the ATCL performs analysis in support of the pharmaceutical industry and offers analytical method development, validation, and the preparation of data for IND applications and for court testimony, as required by individual projects. Located within the Center for Environmental and Human Toxicology, under the direction of Dr. Stephen Roberts, the ATCL is a non-profit service activity of the University of Florida.
- Glyphosate in urine, blood, tissues and plants by LC MS/MS
- Organochlorine pesticide residues (up to 30 target analytes) from environmental (soil, water) or biological (high and low lipid tissues, blood, carcass) samples by GC-MS-MS
- Organophosphate pesticide residues (as client selected analytes) from environmental (soil, water) or biological (high and low lipid tissues, blood, carcass) samples by GC-MS and/or LC-UV-MS
- Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (as selected analytes or total) from environmental (soil, water) or biological (high and low lipid tissues, blood, carcass) samples by GC-MS
- Polychlorinated biphenyls (as selected congeners, total, or Aroclor) from environmental (soil, water) or biological (high and low lipid tissues, blood, carcass) samples by GC-MS
- Volatile and semivolatile organic compounds from environmental (soil, water) samples by GC-MS
- Hormones (panel of up to 13 hormones including cortisol, E1, E2, E3, EE2, Testosterone, 11-keto-testosterone, aldosterone, corticosterone, equilin, 17-OH progesterone, porgestoerone, DHT) from plasma, serum, waters, livestock wastes, and biological tissues by LC-MS-MS
- BPA and BPS from tissues and water by LC MS-MS
- Fatty acid panel (up to 32 target analytes) from biological tissues (red blood cell membranes, breast milk, egg yolk, others) by GC-MS
- Lipidomics – targeted panel for 1300 lipids analyzed by LC MS-MS in both positive and negative voltage using an ABSCIEX 6500 QTRAP. We have methods for both HILIC and C18 chromatography separations.
- Isoflavones (aglycones, conjugated, total) from cultures, biological samples or commercial products by LC-UV-MS
