Associate Professor
About Abdel A Alli
The two main areas of focus of my research program include 1) investigating the role of extracellular vesicles in intercellular communication and intracellular signaling associated with pathophysiology and 2) investigating the role of proteases, adaptor proteins, and lipids in the regulation of epithelial transport mechanisms in the pathogenesis of disease (e.g. hypertension, cystic fibrosis, diabetic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease) over a 24 hour cycle.

Research Profile
My laboratory uses a multidisciplinary approach to investigate mechanisms of disease. We have established protocols/methods for measuring 1) single channel activity of ion channels in cultured cells and in native tissue by electrophysiology, 2) density of membrane proteins by protein biochemistry, enrichment of lipids/proteins within extracellular vesicles and membrane preparations by lipidomics/proteomics, 3) uptake of extracellular vesicles and expression of various constructs by microscopy, and 4) effect of extracellular vesicles loaded with small molecule drugs by pharmacological approaches.
